I've been planning on opening the champagne on my solar panel system, but i have a problem. An inspector is looking for irreversible crimp on the grounds and I have no idea what it is. atm the grounds are joined with a wire nut in my box, so im clueless about what I need to buy and do.

An irreversible crimp is basically a permanent mechanical connection that's made using a crimping tool designed to compress a metal sleeve or lug around the wires. Once it's crimped, it can't be undone without cutting it off — hence "irreversible."
Inspectors ask for it because it's more reliable for grounding than something like a wire nut, which can loosen over time. For solar systems, they're usually looking for copper compression lugs or grounding crimp sleeves that meet UL 486A-486B standards. You'll need a proper crimping tool — not just any pliers — to make sure the connection's solid. Burndy, Ilsco, or Panduit are common brands for this kind of stuff.
Wire nuts won't cut it for grounding in a solar setup — they're just not secure enough long-term.

An irreversible crimp means a permanent connection that cant be undone easily. Wire nuts dont count because they can be removed. You need a crimp connector like a c-tap and a crimping tool to squeeze it tight. Check an electrical supply store for the right size for your wires. That should fix it for the inspector. ;)

So your inspector basically just wants a mechanically irreversible connection for your ground wires in simple terms. You'll need a listed ground crimp sleeve for this and a tool to partner with it just for compliance. Ask the ins[ector too if they consider irreversible lugs :)
